Steve Carell to play John du Pont

Steve Carell is about to get serious.
The former star of hit TV show The Office has signed up to play convicted killer John du Pont in new movie Foxcatcher, according to trade ragVariety.
The heir to the du Pont fortune, believed to be a paranoid schizophrenic, murdered Olympic gold medal-winning wrestler David Schultz in 1996 on his 800-acre estate, called Foxcatcher.
Following the shooting, du Pont locked himself in his mansion for two days while negotiating with the police over the phone before he was taken into custody.
The next year, he was found guilty of third degree murder and sentenced to 13 to 40 years but he died in prison in 2010 at the age of 72.
The film to be directed by Moneyball helmer Bennett Miller has been in development for the past four years and will begin shooting in March.
